Finding IT Training Jobs Wont Be Easy

Although there is normally a good range of IT training vacancies, it is a competitive industry and you may be up against candidates with several years’ worth of IT training and hands-on experience.  If you are passionate about breaking into the profession, you must be prepared to put in the time (and possible financial investment) that is required to reach a level where gaining employment as an IT trainer is realistic.

There are many recruitment agencies with branches dedicating to placing candidates in IT training jobs.  Most of them have a website where you can register your details, upload your C.V., and browse current vacancies.  Because jobs in IT training can be so specific, it is a good idea to arrange a face to face meeting with one of the recruitments consultants so that they can get to know you in person and answer any questions you may have regarding the job vacancy.

Before you upload your C.V.  to a website or give it to a recruitment consultant, make sure it is up to date and as impressive as you can make it.  If you need some assistance with your C.V.  there are companies which can provide a drafting or editing service for a reasonable fee.  There are also websites that have C.V.  layout samples and useful tips, which are free of charge.  Take advantage of these services to ensure that your C.V.  will impress a prospective employer.

If you don’t want to use a recruitment agency to find a job in IT training, many companies advertise independently and have web pages dedicated to recruitment.  Check these regularly to keep abreast of current vacancies.  It may also be worthwhile sending your C.V.  to them regardless of whether they have any positions advertised.

If they like the look of you on paper, they might ask you to attend an interview and if you are lucky that could lead to a job offer.  When you send your C.V.  include a well-written, concise covering letter with all your contact details, stating what type of position you are looking for and what your availability is in terms of your present job, notice period and availability for interview.

Computer Training Jobs Typically Earn…

An IT training job typically pays a starting salary of around £25k.  If you are working in London, this will be higher – generally around £30k.  There really is no upper limit as it depends greatly on your specific role, the company you work for and whether there is any element of commission-based pay in your job description.

The role of an IT trainer generally involves delivering pre-defined, sometimes bespoke, training courses to a wide cross-section of people.  Clients will be of all ages and backgrounds and different qualification levels, depending on the course they have chosen.  Sometimes the training is provided at a training centre; on other occasions, the job requires attendance clients’ own premises, which could involve nationwide travel.  The extent of training locations varies depending on the company you work for.

Many companies will expect a clean driving license so that you will be able to travel as much as is required in the course of your job.  Other skills they will look for, aside from IT skills, are excellent communication skills and basic administration abilities.  If you have previous experience in delivering presentations to an audience, or developing training courses, this will work in your favour.   Generally, it does not matter if this experience is in IT training or not – it is the core skills that are important.

IT training manager jobs will offer a higher rate of pay, anywhere around £35,000 and higher.  IT training managers are responsible for other trainers as well as running their own training courses.  This position has a high level of responsibility and commitment but the rewards can be fantastic.  Many of these roles have additional commission-based pay structures, which can greatly increase the salary.
